Navidad 2010

A few years back, my oldest son, Matt, wanted to see what all the hype was about regarding that day-after-Thanksgiving shopping day called, “Black Friday.” I agreed to tag along, but only if we would bring the video camera. I thought it would be fun to interview people crazy enough to get in line over 24-hours before stores even opened.

At four in the morning, I put on a red shirt, a Christmas necktie, and a Santa cap and off we went. (You can watch a fun video of our little “Black Friday” adventure on YouTube. )

For me, shopping is either great fun or extreme drudgery. I really dislike shopping for clothes. After all, I have a good pair of jeans and many nice T-shirts. A close second is going to the grocery store. It’s not that I mind going to the grocery store, it’s just that I need very specific instructions. Here’s a note my wife gave me to go and get spaghetti sauce:

“Ask someone to help you find aisle 8. Walk 12 paces, stop, look to your right. Stoop down slightly at the waist and select a 26 oz. bottle marked “Ragú, Old World Style, Traditional, 100% natural. Buy that one. Come home.”

Interestingly, when it comes to electronic stores, I can shop with uncanny precision and stamina for hours.

Did you know the ministry of LOGOI has thousands of “shoppers” every day? They come to us from foreign countries all across the globe: Chile, Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, California, even Australia and Japan. Would it surprise you to know that like those crazy Black Friday shoppers, hundreds of them have been “waiting in line” for weeks? Talk about dedicated shoppers!

A Great Christmas Project

Instead of clothes or gadgets, however, they are shopping LOGOI’s “store” for Bible books and materials to help them more effectively teach and preach God’s Word. Problem is, most need a little help to get them. Problem is, most need a little help to get them.  That’s where we come in.  As I write this letter, there are over 360 “WishList” requests from pastors and leaders overseas.  They are asking for things like, How to Illustrate SermonsEssential Truths of the Christian Faith, Biblical Preaching, and Biblical Counseling.

Here’s a very simple, doable, and very meaningful Christmas project—purchase a book or two on a pastor’s WishList. Most books cost about $10, which means a gift of $50 will help 5 pastors; $100 helps 10.  Simply click here to donate the amount you wish and we’ll take it from there. We’ll log onto our website, purchase the items in your name and then report back to you. How easy is that?

A much more personal way for you to do this is to log onto LOGOI and help pastors and leaders yourself.  This is what we are calling a “new way” to do missions.  You can send them a note of encouragement, wish them a Merry Christmas, and get to know them a little.  To do this, you need to:
1.    If you haven’t logged in yet, go to logoi.org, Home Page,
2.    Click on the “log-in” or “sign up” button and register, then
3.     Click on the “Quick Start Guide” button which will explain how to buy WishList items.
(NOTE:  Gifts made in this way are 100% tax deductible.)

360 gifts by Christmas:

Over the next days leading up to Christmas, our goal is to take care of every one of those 360+ WishList items.  To make this happen, we’re asking for your joyful and generous Christmas “wishlist” gifts.

Here’s the very best part. When we help Spanish pastors effectively teach and preach God’s Word: the Gospel is spread, churches grow, communities are impacted with the love and truth of Jesus Christ, and the real message of Christmas is joyfully told.

So, come on.  Let’s do this!  Together, this Christmas, God can use us to joyfully spread the news that “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born” (Luke 2:11).

Merry Christmas!
