(1938–2013)
David’s parents were missionaries under Wycliffe Bible Translators for a time, and translated the New Testament into the Maya language. His father was a pioneer missionary (as was his grandfather also), and the Lord blessed the seed that was sown, and many churches were begun, but the training of the leadership did not keep up with the growth of the church. So David and his wife Jean worked together for four generations in the training of lay leadership and young people in the Mexican National Presbyterian Church (which is very conservative and evangelistic). In 1968 David began the Itinerant Theological Institute (ITI) that reached out to lay leaders all over the Yucatan Peninsula through theological education by extension (TEE). From 1973-1976 they lived in Mexico City where David was the president of the main seminary of the National Presbyterian Church. Upon their return to the Yucatan he was asked to form a new seminary for southeast Mexico, which opened its doors in 1982 as the San Pablo Theological Seminary. Several hundred graduated in his lifetime, and are now actively serving the Lord in different areas of Mexico and Belize.
David also served in leadership positions in the Synod and General Assembly of the national church. He moderated the hymnal committee that edited a new hymnbook for the church, a hymnal that is now widely used not only in Mexico, but also in all Spanish-speaking areas.
David went to be with the Lord March 15, 2013. His wife, Jean, continues their work in Merida, Yucatan, México. They have three children: David Mark, Juan Daniel and Debora Jean.
