October 2020 – Javier Andrés González Cortés

Colombia is known for some of the finest coffee in the world, and the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Region is picturesque Ciudad Milagro (Miracle City), situated roughly 180 miles southwest of Bogota. Its real name is Armenia, capital city of Quindío but, because of its rapid urban growth and development during the 20th century, Ciudad Milagro became a fitting nickname.

Armenia is home to some 295,000 residents and its climate is ideal for growing not just coffee but also plantains and bananas. Tourists flock to the nine-block pedestrian walkway through the center of town lined with shops and restaurants, while locals love the hometown Deportes Quindío professional football (soccer) club. Its diverse geography has also made it a favorite training location for some of the greatest climbing cyclists in the world in preparation for such prestigious international events as the Tour de France.

Living in this miraculous city is one of our wonderful national missionaries, Javier Andrés González Cortés. He and his wife, Lisset, are raising two children (ages 3 and 7) as he forms part of the lay-leadership and evangelism team at Colombia’s Iglesia Pentecostal Unida.

Javier’s “day job” is in finance, working with local businesses and individuals. “Our church is in an area with people of high income,” he explains, “and God has given me the great challenge of an evangelistic ministry directed to

business owners, university students, and people in high economic levels. I am greatly burdened for those who are heading to eternity without Christ and are fooled by progressive philosophies of wealth and postmodernism.”

“I am infinitely grateful for LOGOI’s Bible courses,” Javier adds. “They have given me a solid base for theological studies, as well as a certificate that is very necessary in these times to validate our studies and learning. I am also teaching LOGOI Bible courses in my church to a group of 12 men who are interested in evangelism. It has been a marvelous and worthwhile experience.”

It’s so wonderful to see Javier’s joy and excitement about proclaiming the Good News. God has placed Javier exactly where He wants him. Would you take a moment right now and pray for him? Just think, Javier is already at work in his community proclaiming the Gospel. LOGOI’s job is simply to help him. That’s a pretty great job and one we joyfully share with you.
