Count your Blessings

I love Bing Crosby’s old rendition of “Count Your Blessings”:

When I’m worried and I can’t sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings…

The simple song has been re-recorded by dozens of others, but for me, it’s just not  right unless Bing is crooning.  I found this link on YouTube just in case you want  to listen again to that smooth-as-silk baritone voice: (

I have been enjoying a weekend hobby these days. I found a box of our old family videos (remember VHS, BETA), and have begun transferring selected clips to a digital format.  Then I’ve been piecing together special memories for family and friends to enjoy in little three or four minute video vignettes.  What a fun way to “count my blessings” not to mention finding proof that I once was indeed…thin.

There have been a few I have watched over and over again.  One is about our daughter’s real birth-day called “Brand New Abby.”  How do we so profoundly love someone we’ve just met?  Another is titled “Uncle Eddie” which features my son, Matt, when he was three, excitedly calling me “Uncle Eddie” because that’s what his cousins were calling me. And I love seeing clips of loved ones who have gone on ahead; how well they looked and how blessed I was to know them, to love them, and be loved by them. We have stacks of old videos here at LOGOI as well.

Each one is full of special memories of pastors being trained and needs being met: reminders to “count our blessings” as we see God at work through LOGOI’s ministry.  (You can view many of these “blessings” at  “logoiministries” on YouTube (

And now, new memories and blessings are being added each day. Today, our “P.I.G.s to Pastors” ministry—which provides essential on-the-job Bible courses and resources as well as a cash gift of $50 to help in a time of need —is touching the lives of pastors throughout the Spanish world. Each one, a wonderful blessing to count! Here are what these pastors have to say:

So this Thanksgiving, I urge you to joyfully add more blessings to count as you invest in God’s Kingdom.  And of course, we think LOGOI’s P.I.G.s for Pastors is an ideal place for you to be a profound blessing to others.  Just remember, you will never be disappointed with your return and you will count your blessings…forever!
